Has anyone had the folowing problems with jaws?
When JAWS is started as a system survice with 7.0 or 7.1 it works fine. However when opening IE it say page has no links in Google. If I exit JAWS and start JAWS everything works fine.
Also with JAWS 7.1 when entering the links list, it'll just say "Selected" and not tell you what the link is. With jaws 7.0 the links list works fine.
I'm useing Windows 2000, 4 gigs of DDR2 RAM, 3 40 gig HD's, P 4 3.0 GHZ Duewl Processor.

Even on my laptop (which only has JAWS 7.1, the same problem happens with the links list. However, there is not the problem with it saying "Page has no links".

On that its Windows XP Media Center addition 2004, 80 gig HD, 1.37 GHZ duewl processor, 2 gigs of DDR2 RAM.
I'm thinking this is a JAWS issue, but maybe someone can inlighten me.
Thanks
John

I have this problem happen all the tinme. Especially when I am reading my desktop. It messes up and says 1 of how many are there. For example in the links list it will say one of 7 if there are 67 links on the page

Didn't used to have this problem with Jaws 6 or below.

Another of the myriad reasons I refuse to use anything higher than jaws5.1. This has to do with that version of jawsVid.dll. If you swap the file with a version from jaws6 or lower--taking on the headache that entails--, this problem should disappear.

I contacted the quality department at fs about the crappy bugs we are getting in our new releases and he called me and wants to talk to me. I am calling him on Monday. It's just jaws in general I think. I have 6 and I'm staying with 6 until fs gets the crap together.

troy,

You should somehow record that call. It'd be a great listen from the standpoints of both satire and knowledge.

Jaws eight is out and so far not bad except the stupid pdf form for upgrading the sma, I could've sworn you could do that online instead of mailing or faxing it. Oh well good luck jon.

Yes, the recording would be good.
Sorry, but can i ask why you have 2000 on 4 gig of ram and xp on 2 gig? Yet you can't even sort out stereo mix?

First install xp it will run better on hardware that powerful. Second upgrade to jaws 8 or at least try the demo and see if those problems go away.

In answer to some questions.
Jaws 8 I didn't think it was out yet. Wasn't as of Thursday when I check. I'll instal that.
Second the Stereo Mix problem exists with the laptop. The issue with that is there is no mike ctrl in playback (Yes I've checked advanced.) Also though it shows I have a line-in there is no jack on the laptop itself. Further more there is no wave volume ctrl, just volume in both playback/record. As per the desktop, I'm waiting on help to fix my mixer problems to get mikes and stuff working on that system.
As for why I haven't upgraded to XP on my desktop system like that, its simply because I don't want to be bothered installing everything all over again. (Yes I realize the hardware will run better.) When my local HD goes then I'll do it.

Thanks all for the suggestions.
John

John,

You could use virtual audio cable to replicate a stereo mix situation. From the VAC help file:

----------
The Virtual Audio Cable (VAC) software implements an idea of a physical interconnection cable applied to Windows digital audio ports
(Wave In and Wave Out). VAC has a Windows device driver that creates a set of Virtual Cables. Each cable is a pair of the Wave In and Wave Out audio ports. "
In" and "Out" ports in each pair are internally connected so all digital audio data sent (played) to the "Out" port by source application is directly transferred
to the "In" port and can be retrieved (recorded) by another (destination) application... Etc.

Jim.
Thanks this sounds like it would be exactly what I need. I'm going to assume it's accessible? I should also add that the free version doesn't seem to download from what I gather is the home page, http://nrcde.ru/music/software/eng/vac.html#features
